Get tickets to ride on the fabulous Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

During your approximately ten-minute journey, tram cars rotate slowly from within, offering picturesque and spectacular vistas of the valley floor below. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway — the world’s largest rotating tram car — travels over two and a half miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon, taking you to the pristine wilderness of the Mt. San Jacinto State Park.

Once you reach the Mountain Station (elevation 8,516 feet), enjoy two restaurants, observation decks, a natural history museum, two documentary theaters, a gift shop and over 50 miles of hiking trails.

Time

Operating hours are 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekends.
You must redeem your "OPEN" reservation voucher at the Tramway's ticket booth. No specific tour time is guaranteed until you redeem your voucher at the ticket booth.
Tickets must be redeemed during operating hours. Tram cars depart every 30 minutes during operating hours. Last car up the mountain is at 8:00 pm and the last car down is at 9:45 pm.

Special Schedule Details

The tram is closed for annual maintenance from mid September to early October each year.

The Tramway will be closing early on Saturday, December 2, 2017 - the last Tramcar up will be at 7:00 pm and last Tramcar down at 8:30 pm.

The Tramway will be closing early on Thursday, December 7, 2017 - the last Tramcar up is at 2:00 pm and the last Tramcar down at 4:00 pm.

Boarding the Tramway is first-come-first-served and sometimes long lines exist. Please be patient when long lines delay boarding.

Important

  • Cellular phone service is unreliable in Mount San Jacinto State Park.
  • Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is subject to closures due to severe weather.
  • The Valley Station, the tramcar and the Mountain Station are all fully wheelchair accessible and A.D.A. compliant.
  • It's much cooler at the top of the mountain. Remember to take a sweater or jacket with you. It can be 30-40 degrees cooler at the Mountain Station (8,516 feet) than at the Valley Station.
  • Only service animals are allowed on the tram. The State Park also restricts pets to service animals.
  • Hiking permits are not needed for Long Valley trails, but a wilderness permit is needed if hiking beyond the ranger station. There is no charge and it may be obtained upon arrival at the ranger station.
  • Camping permits are required. The State Park charges $5 per person for camping permits. A telephone number will be provided on your E-Ticket to make permit arrangements.
  • Pine Café, a cafeteria-style restaurant, does not accept reservations. Peaks Restaurant, a waiter-service dining experience, does. Information will be provided on your E-Ticket for making a reservation.

Facilities

Located in the Valley Station is a gift shop, snack bar and outside patio. In the Mountain Station is a gift shop, two restaurants (one for casual dining and The Peaks for fine dining), cocktail lounge, Natural History Exhibits and a theatre showing a special documentary film on the history of the Tramway. The Francis Crocker Room, a private room, can accommodate up to 136 persons for a banquet function. The Culver Nichols Conference Room, with magnificent views of Mt. San Jacinto State Park, can accommodate groups up to 24 for a private function. Groups from 125 to 250 can be accommodated in the restaurant with its beautiful view of the Coachella Valley below.

There are picnic areas and observation points with telescopes at both stations. V.W. Grubbs View Point at the southeast corner of the Mountain Station offers 360-degree views of the desert floor and Wilderness area.

At the Top

Within Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness area are some 54 miles of hiking trails, primitive campgrounds and picnic areas. In winter, the Tramway Adventure Center is open in Long Valley offering cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Equipment rentals are available.

Parking

There are nominal parking fees payable onsite by cash ($20 bill is largest accepted), Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover. There is designated disabled parking for vehicles with disabled parking signs or tags.

Cancellation Policy

There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change policy

If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can only be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.
