Your mesmerizing journey begins in the Old West with a visit to a replica Old Mining Camp which depicts the harsh life of the early prospectors and gold miners. Here you will learn how they coped with the extreme climate, primitive living conditions, and the back-breaking business of prospecting, mining, and extracting gold from ore.

Pan for gold like the miners did in the late 1800s! Then, tour the camp which features a gold mine, telegraph office, stage coach office, mercantile, assay office, and - of course - the town jail.

Next you will visit a pioneer homestead to see how early pioneers survived in the arid climate of the Coachella Valley. The homestead includes a recreated 12-by-16 feet homestead shack, outhouse, cooler, pond, laundry area, tortoise pen, chicken coop, and corral.

As your journey continues, you will explore steep-walled canyons and deep gorges as you follow the prospector's quest for gold trapped in the veins of quartz rock.

Your journey ends with a visit to Los Vaqueros Canyon where you will tour a cowboy camp and learn about the desert cowboy's heritage.

Notes

-Where does the tour depart?
This tour departs from a central location in Palm Desert. The address will be provided on your E-Ticket when your tour is confirmed.

-Can children go?
Of course! We take children 4 years old and over on this tour. California Law requires that children under 6 years of age or 60 pounds must ride in an approved child safety seat. To ensure the safety of your child, you must provide your own car seat and you must assume responsibility for buckling your child into the seat to make sure the child is properly secured.

-How rough is the ride?
This tour can be bumpy at times and is not recommended for young children (under age 4) or guests with neck or back injuries. Women who are pregnant are advised to consult with their doctor before taking a Jeep tour.

-How many guests fit in one jeep?
Each jeep carries 7 passengers plus your Naturalist Guide/Driver.

-Do we need to bring water?
Our jeeps are stocked with plenty of cool bottled water and granola bars.

-Are there restrooms?
Clean restrooms are available on our tour.

-What kind of shoes and clothes should I wear?
You should wear closed toe shoes with rubber soles (no open toes). Desert temperatures change quickly, so dress in layers and bring sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.

-Can I bring a video or other camera?
Absolutely, the photo opportunities are wonderful.

-Do you get out of the jeep? is there hiking involved? How difficult?
Yes, on most of our tours, you get out of your jeep several times to see things up close and personal.

-What kind of wildlife will we see?
Desert wildlife includes coyotes, kit fox, tarantulas, scorpions, an occasional mountain lion, rattle snakes and other cool snakes (don't be scared...they are more scared of you and will hide in most instances: unless you are lucky!) Most desert wildlife is seen early morning or late in the afternoon just before sunset.

Equipment
Today, we have the largest fleet of Jeep Scramblers (CJ-8) in the country. From an initial fleet consisting of three used vehicles with a capacity of nine passengers, we have grown to operate 16 custom-built Jeep Scramblers with a seating capacity of 112.

All vehicles are equipped with radios and First Aid gear, approved safety features such as roll bars and seat belts for each occupant, and can be operated as open-air vehicles or with the canvas top unfurled. Our full-time Jeep Operations Manager checks each vehicle daily.
