Off Road Bike Tours from Palm Desert![]() Bike tour We are committed to the belief that a bicycle is an excellent mode of sightseeing. It allows you to see, smell and hear more than you would from behind the wheel of an automobile while at the same time creating the natural high that good, outdoor exercise produces. What a perfect marriage of travel and exercise to showcase the beauty of Southern California! Our named tours listed below are easy enough to be manageable for the novice cyclist yet provide plenty of variety for the intermediate to advanced cyclist on vacation. You can choose from options such as the Pinyon Flat, Thomas Mountain, or Top of the World tours. Each tour features a brief history on the various regions of the Coachella Valley and the surrounding mountains. Pinyon Flats - A relatively easy off-road route that uses dirt roads in a sparsely populated residential neighborhood. There is also a short single track section to give riders an introduction to trail riding. This ride stays in the Garner Valley where riders will be treated to constant views of Mt. Santa Rosa, Toro Peak, and Mt. Santa Rosa. This is a great ride for the beginning mountain biker. Group Size: 2 - 30 riders Tour Length/Distance: 3.5 hours/13 miles Difficulty: Beginner Thomas Mountain - One of the most popular and versatile rides in the San Jacinto Mountain area. This ride provides a steady climb up to the top of Thomas Mountain via a Forest Service road where riders will descend the other side of the mountain and finish on Route 74. There are many variations for riders opting to ride this tour. The most popular is to start at the southeastern end of Thomas Mountain Road and simply ride to Forest Service road 7.5 miles to the top and 7.5 miles down the other side of the mountain. Riders can choose, however to start the tour at Tool Box Springs Campground 2 miles from the summit in order to shorten the climb to the top. Riders may also choose to take the 5.5 mile technical single track from Tool Box Springs all the way down the mountain and back to Route 74. Each option provides wonderfully scenic vistas of Anza Valley below and the San Jacinto ridge line to the north. Group Size: 2 - 20 riders Tour Length/Distance: 3 - 5 hours/10 - 15 miles Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced The Top of the World - A fantastically scenic out and back ride that at the top offers one of the finest viewpoints in all of Southern California. The course follows a little-used unpaved utility road for its 13 mile route. Along the way riders can enjoy views of Haystack Mountain and Mt. San Jacinto in the distance. Riders can also refill their water bottle with crystal clear and cool spring water at Santa Rosa Spring 4 miles from the summit. The turnaround point at the 8716 foot summit provides unparalleled 360° views of Southern California from the Salton Sea to Mt. San Jacinto to Joshua Tree National Park. A must-ride tour for the serious mountain biker. Group Size: 2 - 20 riders Tour Length/Distance: 6 hours/26 miles Difficulty: Advanced

These rides provide participants a chance to get out of the Coachella Valley and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery of the Santa Rosa range. These rides require a minimum 40-minute shuttle ride each way (included in tour price) and offer temperatures at least ten degrees cooler than what riders experience down in the Coachella Valley.
