Palm Springs Aerial Tramway![]() Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Get tickets to ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The Aerial Tramway is the world's largest rotating tramcar systems. It carries visitors from an elevation of over 2000 feet to a Mountain Station located at the 8,516 foot level of Mt. San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness. The tram is open all year. Experience transportation by tram to the top of the mountain. At the top, there are outdoor activities and areas to camp, hike, cross-country ski, picnic, and more. Or just to relax and enjoy the scenery and outdoors! Dine, shop and enjoy the amazing views at the top of the mountain. The tramway was built in 1963 as a way of getting to Mt. San Jacinto State Park from the floor of the Coachella Valley. The ride up North America's sheerest mountain face passes through several different temperate zones on its way to the Mountain Station at over 8500 feet above mean sea level. Some say it is like a motor trip from Mexico to Canada in terms of the geologic and climatic changes!
Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final. Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can only be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center. It is not necessary to specify a time of day on your request because you can plan your day as you choose! Trams depart every 30 minutes from 10:00 am Monday through Friday and 8:00 am Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. The last car up the mountain is at 8:00 pm and last car down is at 9:45 pm. Memorial Day to Labor Day last car up is at 9:00 pm and last car down is at 10:30 pm. SPECIAL SCHEDULE NOTES The tram is closed for annual maintenance for approximately three weeks in September each year. WHAT CAN YOU DO ONCE AT THE TOP?
At the top of the mountain there are hiking trails, camping, and picnic areas. It's much cooler at the top of the mountain. Remember to take a sweater or jacket with you. It can be 30-40 degrees cooler at the Mountain Station (8,516 feet) than at the Valley Station. The ride to the top of the tram is two and one half miles from the Valley station, up Chino Canyon, about 10 minutes each way. The views you will see are breathtaking and stretch some 50 miles in every direction. The tramcar slowly rotates to provide optimal views of every part of the countryside! This tramway is known to many as one of the "wonders of the engineering world" because the towers supporting the cables and the tram cars ascending the mountain were erected with the assistance of helicopters more than 40 years ago in 1963. ARE THERE ANY PERMITS REQUIRED?
A permit is required for any hiking or backpacking in the Wilderness. Permits can be obtained, free of charge at the top of the Tramway. IS THERE ANY PLACE FOR CROSS COUNTRY SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING EQUIPMENT RENTALS?
Yes. Equipment rental is available (snow conditions permitting). IS PARKING AVAILABLE? Yes. Free parking is available in several lots. Buses and campers are welcomed. The Tramway is closed for annual maintenance in September.
A beautiful mountain view awaits you!
